Having a good internet speed is crucial in an ever more connected world.
Usually internet speed is measured in mbps (aka Megabytes Per Second), the higher the better, in fact mbps are also used by your ISP to cap your internet speeds, for example modern fiber lines usually have a speed limit of 1gbps (Gigabytes per second) while datacenter connections run at way higher speeds (sometimes those speeds reach 100 GBPS!!).
Here's a list of the internet speeds required by various online activities:
For basic web browsing I recommend an internet connection of at least 10mbps since most websites today use images and/or videos.
For working remotely it is recommended to have an internet connection of at least 20 Mbps (used by software like Google Meet to stream your webcam)
For streaming 1080p (Full HD) content I recommend a 35mbps internet connection and for 4K I recommend a connection of at least 100mbps since it is a higher resolution video.
For gaming any of those speeds is fine as long as the latency is low, for example, users with a fibre connection have a latency (commonly called ping) of around 7ms, when it comes to latency the lower the better.
A problem that everybody has is that you pay for an overpriced internet plan and the wifi sucks, that's normal since wifi speeds can be altered by various factors such as the number of routers around you or other environmental factors like doors or walls.
If you want to have the best speed that you can get consider plugging in your pc with an ethernet cable since most routers have some ethernet ports on their back, another thing that you can do is to buy a professional grade wifi access point (like the Aruba Instant On AP22, Ubiquiti Unifi U6 Lite, Cisco CBW150AX, etc.) however those devices can be complicated to setup if you are not good with tech.
Also, BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING A WIFI EXTENDER since those devices give you the same speed since they repeat a weak signal if not positioned correctly (this sentence is from my personal experience).
If you also want to improve your latency for free, consider changing your DNS server as that can make a HUGE DIFFERENCE, various online tutorials explain how to do that.
Anyways, I hope that this article was useful for you.
